As most of you know, last year my life, and the lives of my family changed forever. One moment we were ordering dinner to celebrate my parents arrival home after a month long road trip, the next moment we were getting a call that one can only hope you never receive.

We lost my dad in a moment. And when we lost him, we all lost a big piece of ourselves, of our family, and of what we thought our future would look like.

My dad always encouraged us to live life curiously. To cherish what you have, and to embrace and live in the moments. Because those moments are how your legacy will live on, and those moments are how you will leave your mark on the world.They may be big moments, like graduating from a prestigious university, or carving your own path in your career.They may be small moments like being there for a friend, or listening to the birds sing.That’s what I’m going to miss the most. The moments.

When my dad passed we no longer had him for those moments.The big ones, like walking me down the aisle, or meeting our future children… or the small ones like Sunday dinners, conversations around the fire, or evening rum and cokes. My dad knew the importance of moments.

His legacy lives on with every moment, every memory, and every person he touched.

My hope is that this book helps to maintain that legacy for mine, and my brother’s families, and to our future children who will never get to meet the amazing grandfather that I knew he would be, but will still maintain that curiosity, and find wonder looking for their grandpa amongst the stars.
